Ecology and Ecological Risk Assessment

ENVIRON ecologists, ecotoxicologists and risk assessment specialists help clients navigate an increasingly complex network of local, regional, national, and international government regulations. We are specialists in state-of-the-science approaches to conceptual site modeling, exposure assessment, dose-response quantification and risk characterization, including both deterministic and probabilistic methods. Our experts contribute to the advancement of ecological risk assessment (ERA) guidance around the world.

We routinely provide strategic assistance to our clients with Endangered Species Act (ESA) consultations, conservation planning and wetland assessments to facilitate large-scale project planning, permitting and environmental compliance requirements. Our unique strength for strategic planning derives from our ability to anticipate potential sensitive ecological issues. We assist our clients with the selection of cost-effective solutions that mitigate regulatory and public concerns about the protection of wildlife and natural habitat.

Our ecological risk assessment experts have experience in a wide range of applications, including evaluation of the relative benefits of different remediation options for contaminated lands and waterways; screening of new chemicals prior to commercial production; evaluating risks of both new and established agricultural and industrial chemicals; and characterizing threats to valued ecological resources in a watershed. We provide explicit identification of environmental resources at risk and identify the critical knowledge gaps and uncertainties, thereby helping to achieve cost-effective, long-term and sustainable solutions that mitigate ecological threats or injuries.
